Overcoming Marriage Trouble

Signs That You Might Have Depression

The brain can experience trauma just like any other part of the body. On the other hand, when the brain gets sick, the symptoms of this disease can be very different. Unfortunately, one of the problems with mental illness is that it can change the way you perceive your world. Thus, it is important to know what the signs of mental illness are so that you can get help for yourself before it is too late. Depression is a common illness, so it is a good place to start.

Signs of Depression

When you start looking at depression, it is important to note that you need a constellation of symptoms instead of just one. Still, here is an idea of what to look for:

1. Loss of Appetite: One sign of depression is that you loose your appetite. It's not that you're not hungry. Instead, it's more like you lose your will to eat.

2. Sleeplessness: Not being able to sleep occasionally is not a sign of depression. If, however, you're not able to sleep most nights, then you need to worry.

3. Concentration: If you find your concentration slipping even when conducting important tasks, then you need to find a way to get your focus back. Simply taking caffeine or some other stimulant is not enough.

4. Energy Level: If you find that you don't have the energy it takes to run a marathon or that a long day at work wears you out, you are just like most everyone else in this country. On the other hand, if you don't have the energy to hang out with friends, play games, or do most other ordinary tasks, then you have a real symptom.

5. Interest in Activities: If you no longer want to participate in what used to be your favorite activities, then you need to get help to figure out why.

Remember that these signs are not guarantees that you have depression, but they are signs that point toward depression. If you find that these signs apply to you, if you find yourself withdrawing from your life, then you need to consult with a mental health professional simply as a precautionary measure. Instead of feeling like you are somehow less of a person, just remember that the brain can get sick just like anything else. Thus, just as you would get help if you develop a cold or a trick knee, you need to consult the right doctor, such as Dr. Stephen Brown & Associates, to get you healthy again.

About Me

Overcoming Marriage Trouble

I have been married a little over 20 years, but that doesn't mean that it has always been easy. My husband and I have had long stretches where we didn't get along that well, and it was really frustrating and overwhelming. However, we were both dedicated to working it out and enduring until the end, which is why we are still married. I wanted to make this blog all about overcoming marriage trouble and how much help professional counseling can be. I know that it really helped me, and I feel like it could help you too. Check out this blog for more information.
